September 5th would have been Freddie Mercury's 62nd birthday. Freddie died in 1991 at the age of 45 from complicatons brought about by the HIV/AIDS virus. Freddie was a rock/camp icon who created some of the most memorable songs in later 20th century popular music. With his band Queen he made top selling pop albums as well as lasting rock masterpieces. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame after Freiddie's death. As an outrageous front main he performed on stage in a wild and camp style remenicent of Britsh Music Hall, Bollywood and German Cabaret.
Freddie died a day after he publically announced that he was indeed suffering from HIV/AIDS a condition that he had previously denied. He was 45 years old and at the height of his career and creative powers when he died.
